Kolkata International Jazz Festival
Every winter Jazz scene in India heats up and Kolkata too gets its fair share of International jazz festival which is held in Dalhousie Institute every December for 3 days. Artists from India and abroad perform for three night at various locations in Kolkata.
With winter chill in the air, lawns of Dalhousie Institute, a heritage 150 years old anglo-indian club host a three day event. In 2017, famous artist from India, USA, Germany, France and other parts of Europe performed.

What to Expect in Kolkata Jazz Festival
The ticket price is Rs 500 per day which gives entry to Jazz festival along with some food and drink coupons. Drinks consists of tea/coffee, beer and some simple cocktails along with finger food. There are plastic chairs for those who want to sit and enjoy music but people generally stand sipping wine and enjoying jazz music. Here you can find die hard jazz fans to young first-timers socializing in groups sipping their drinks. Jazz festival has easy going, relaxed vibe combined with affordable alcohol and finger food created an unique musical experience for everyone.
History of Jazz in Kolkata
The Kolkata’s history of Jazz dates back to the 1920s. Over the years, some of the biggest international jazz and blues names including Erik Truffaz, Bobo Stenson, Herbie Hancock, and Jonas Hellborg have performed here in the city of the joy.
Annual jazz festivals were regularly organized by small but enthusiastic groups of jazz lovers. Congo square and Varun Desai of Littlei has been a driving force for more than a decade. In addition, some consulates also organize jazz events for benefit of promoting their national talent.
